Top Drawer eNewsletter 5.7.12

Thanks to everyone who attended this past Art Night, and Top Drawer's reception for Precision: Nick Taylor and Ian Deslaurier!  It was another great event, as visitors filled the gallery space and were wowed by Nick's new assortment of mixed media Transformers and Ian's intricate linework, and treated to some live drawing by Ian!  Art Night continues to be a successful venture, and we are thankful for everyone's attendance and support!

It's May, and that means there's a new show hanging at Top Drawer! Doug Nichols: Fantastic Creations is now up!  Doug's mixed media artwork, at times resembling junk sculpture, sacred object, or sci-fi creation, have literally taken over Top Drawer's gallery.  It's an amazing exhibit by one of Top Drawer's most original artists that truly needs to be seen to be believed.

The Art Night Reception for Doug Nichols: Fantastic Creations is Thursday, May 31st from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Park and ride the Art Night trolleys from five locations – Town Parking Lot across from the Warren Post Office, the Commuter Lot on Franklin St. in Warren, Bristol Plaza (corner of Gooding Ave. and Hope St.), and the Town Parking Lot on Court St., in Bristol. This month’s Art Night event features textile artist Deborah Baronas and mixed media artist Will Schaff.

EMMET ESTRADA: DRAWINGS!

New Work by Emmet Estrada!

Waterfront towns of Bristol and Warren, RI are joining forces to offer nine Art Nights throughout 2012, with a first event on Thursday March 29 from 5 to 8 p.m.  Think gallery stroll with a twist as Art Night promises access to the inner workings of artists’ studios. Each monthly event features two local artists who are opening their studio doors for an up close and personal look at where their work is created. A trolley service (park at Gooding Ave. & Hope St., Bristol) will run between galleries and studios in the two towns, and local restaurants are offering dining incentives. This month's event features studio visits with Warren air sculptor Janice Lee Kelly and Warren painter Debbie Gonville Miller.

For Top Drawer's first Art Night event, we're proud to present an exhibition of new drawings by acclaimed artist Emmet Estrada!  Emmet is a winner of the 2010 Wynn Newhouse Award, a major national award from the Newhouse Foundation for artists with disabilities. In addition to that award and subsequent exhibition in New York City, Emmet recently was part of the Revealing Culture exhibit in the 2010 International VSA Festival, composed of hundreds of artists from around the world and showcased at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., where Emmet displayed a large-scale installation that greeted visitors as they entered the exhibit.  Emmet’s new work is focused in the realm of drawing rather than painting, but is every bit as compelling, as his lines have seemed to have exploded into truly frenetic and captivating works, invoking classic artists such as De Kooning.

Emmet Estrada: Drawings is on view now through March 30, 2012.

Art Night Opening Reception Thursday, March 29, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
